Finding The Perfect Hairstyle

January 19, 2012

Choosing the perfect wedding day hair style can be, like every other decision, overwhelming. Just like every other detail, it is important to take time to find a style that suits you. Before my wedding some people told me to go natural. While I agree with why this works, you have probably seen it in photos and liked it or it would not be your au natural, I did not wear it natural. Parted on the side, straight and flowing down my back would not have worked with my turn of the century fitted 3/4 length sleeved jacket. It all went up on top of my head to create the perfect lift for my simple veil. The point is to take time to decide what works with your
look. Look through pictures, find a stylist, and have a dress rehearsal for your wedding do! At a minimum have at least one dress rehearsal with your wedding day hair stylist. If you are undecided or still deciding do not hesitate to set up another run through. Your wedding day pictures are set in stone forever so make sure you feel comfortable with how your hair looks on the day of your wedding.

Gourmet Popsicles – Las Paletas

June 6, 2011

For those of you planning a summer wedding, especially an outdoor affair, consider a nice cool treat for your guests! One of the best things we’ve seen are gourmet popsicles. They come in a huge variety of flavors, so you can even take it as far as to match them to your colors. One of our favorite companies is Las Paletas…they taste amazing!  However, if you live outside of Nashville, I’m sure that you can find some fun, cool (as in the temp!) treat to serve your guests.  If you are not able to find a company like Las Paletas, consider your closest ice cream or sorbet company.  A nice cold treat is perfect touch on those humid, hot evenings…your guests will appreciate it!

Pets in Weddings – Simply Stunning Events

May 16, 2011

I’m sure many of you have seen the trend of pets being involved in weddings. I, for one, am a huge fan of this. I think it’s a great idea to involve the furry (or feathery or scaley) member of your family in your big day, whether they are in the ceremony, involved in a few photos or make a guest appearance at the reception. It really creates a personal touch to your wedding and can help lighten the mood a little and add an aspect of fun! However, this is somewhat risky and involves a lot of preparation, practice and permission.

Some of the first steps you should take to make this happen are:

  • Check with the officiant and church. Most churches don’t allow pets. If there is a little bit of leeway, you can always suggest bringing in the pet to meet the officiant (or person in charge) to prove he/she is well behaved.
  • If pets are allowed, be prepared to pay an extra fee.
  • Check with your wedding party. It’s very important that everyone is comfortable with a pet being present, since they will be spending quite a bit of time together.
  • Inform your photographer that they will be dealing with a pet. This way they can prepare and make any arrangements needed BEFORE they arrive on the wedding day.
  • Inform your guests that your pet will be involved. Be warned that some guests may chose not to come because of this. Allergies and fear of animals could cause them to pass.
  • Really consider the behavior of your pet. If he/she barks a lot, doesn’t like children/men/women, bites, jumps or isn’t well potty trained, these could all be disastrous on your wedding day.

If you realize having the pet involved in the ceremony isn’t the best idea, you can always involve them in a few photos. This is a nice touch if you want them to be involved, but are not sure they will make it through an entire wedding ceremony. Whether you chose to involve them in the ceremony or just photos, it is a good idea to chose someone (probably not a member of the wedding party) who knows the pet well, to be in charge of them for the day.

If in the ceremony, avoid food and water about a half hour to an hour before the ceremony. You wouldn’t want any messes in the aisle before you walk down it! :)

Make sure you have some sort of plan in place (most likely with the person chosen to be in charge) in case the pet gets tired or becomes antisocial. Bring the bed or crate the pet is used to so that he/she feels comfortable if they need to be taken back to a hotel room or elsewhere.

There are a TON of adorable options for wedding clothing and attire for all types of pets. Some suggestions are:

  • A bow tie, ribbon or bandana matching the color of the bridal party.
  • A new collar and leash matching the color of the bridal party.
  • Tuxedo or formal dress
  • Avoid putting flower arrangements around the neck in case of allergies. Many animals are allergic to all sorts of plants and flowers.
  • Put a corsage on the handle of the leash.
  • Practice wearing the chosen outfit before the wedding day to ensure comfort and ease of use.

Tuesday’s Trendwatch – Going Green

August 24, 2010

As we have mentioned before – our Tuesday’s Trendwatch post is not only about great style and fashion, but also about what trend’s we are seeing in the Bridal and Wedding market.  From a gorgeous gown to a stellar wedding reception – its all based off trends we see in our day to day.

Another trend that has made its way into the Wedding scene is the idea of “going green”.  We, at WedCandy, have done a little research and come up with 10 excellent ways to make your wedding and reception a green event.  We all care in one way or another about our environment – why not make a difference with your big event?

1. Use 100% recycled invitations.  Encourage your guests to recycle or even plant their invitations based upon the style that you choose.

2. Use less paper.  Tell your guests about your reception and hotel accommodations via email or by creating your own wedding web page.

3.  Choose a Reply Postcard.  This will cut down on the use of paper (no envelope!) and save you money (less postage!).  Don’t forget to use recycled paper for that added bonus.

4.  Buy Vintage.  Buy a Vintage Wedding Dress and possibly even a Tuxedo from a designer resale shop or from

5.  Choose Local Flowers.  Research local designers that use flowers locally.  Think about using arrangements that can be sent home with you guests and be re-planted.

6.  Recycled Jewelry.  Look into purchasing recycled gold and platinum and have it made into a unique setting all your own.  Also, don’t forget to use family heirlooms as well.

7.  Organic Entrees.  Choose a caterer that will serve organic entrees and finger foods from locally grown farmers.   This can also include serving local beer and wine during your reception.

8. Close Reception Location.  Research different wedding reception locations that are close to the location you chose to get married and have your nuptials.  This will reduce carbon emissions and your carbon footprint.

9.  Donate, donate, donate.  Instead of handing out wedding favors, let your guests know that you will be donating $ per guest to a local charity.

10.  Other resources.  Visit the I Do Foundation for other great ideas – from donating your Wedding dress to donating money from your registries.

Don’t forget – have fun – even while going green!
