As we have mentioned before – our Tuesday’s Trendwatch post is not only about great style and fashion, but also about what trend’s we are seeing in the Bridal and Wedding market. From a gorgeous gown to a stellar wedding reception – its all based off trends we see in our day to day.
Another trend that has made its way into the Wedding scene is the idea of “going green”. We, at WedCandy, have done a little research and come up with 10 excellent ways to make your wedding and reception a green event. We all care in one way or another about our environment – why not make a difference with your big event?
1. Use 100% recycled invitations. Encourage your guests to recycle or even plant their invitations based upon the style that you choose.
2. Use less paper. Tell your guests about your reception and hotel accommodations via email or by creating your own wedding web page.
3. Choose a Reply Postcard. This will cut down on the use of paper (no envelope!) and save you money (less postage!). Don’t forget to use recycled paper for that added bonus.
4. Buy Vintage. Buy a Vintage Wedding Dress and possibly even a Tuxedo from a designer resale shop or from Etsy.com.
5. Choose Local Flowers. Research local designers that use flowers locally. Think about using arrangements that can be sent home with you guests and be re-planted.
6. Recycled Jewelry. Look into purchasing recycled gold and platinum and have it made into a unique setting all your own. Also, don’t forget to use family heirlooms as well.
7. Organic Entrees. Choose a caterer that will serve organic entrees and finger foods from locally grown farmers. This can also include serving local beer and wine during your reception.
8. Close Reception Location. Research different wedding reception locations that are close to the location you chose to get married and have your nuptials. This will reduce carbon emissions and your carbon footprint.
9. Donate, donate, donate. Instead of handing out wedding favors, let your guests know that you will be donating $ per guest to a local charity.
10. Other resources. Visit the I Do Foundation for other great ideas - from donating your Wedding dress to donating money from your registries.
Don’t forget – have fun – even while going green!

Human Courtship. Sounds so romantic! I saw this and thought it looked interesting enough to share with the class. Should be an interesting story!
U.S. Weekly TV Newsmagazine Dateline NBC To Air Human Interest Story About The Hardships of Human Courtship
Dateline investigative reporter Sara James has spent the greater part of the last two years tracking down various different aspects of the modern-day male and female courting ritual. With the advent of the internet and the rise of other modern technology, the world has never seen a more confusing and rapidly-changing courtship process.
Join us as Sara takes you across 4 continents spanning New York City, Tokyo, London, and Buenos Aires for a closer look at how different cultures and other influences like religion and social dynamics dictate the courtship rituals of today..
Sara will also dive into some more murky facets of modern courtship like online dating, the rise of the date-rape drug Flunitrazepam (commonly referred to as “roofies”) and the statistical connection between the popularity of technology-assisted courtship and the rise of date-rape incidents.
Finally, she will take a look at the underground community of the “pick-up artist”. Following on the heels of the New York Times Bestselling book exposing the secret community in 2005, to a VH1 reality TV show in 2007, to the modern evolution of dating coaches in “Hitch” style that can even give statistical proof that their methods work to attract women, Sara gives an engaging summary and ties in what anomalies like these mean to the status quo for dating.
The question posed by this segment is whether or not the advent of modern courtship tactics and technologies like online dating (a multi-billion dollar industry) have done more to unite us or more to divide us.
Dateline NBC, or Dateline, is a U.S. weekly television newsmagazine broadcast by NBC. Check out http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032600/ for more information

The sneak peek that you have been waiting for….the one that I hinted to.
Showing off those hints of Red just made this wedding truly classic and gave it a unique flavor of modern with a vintage appeal. Angela and Troy were married in a simple ceremony with added bits of twist that showed off their true personality. The flowers were those of Red roses hinted with bits of pink and magenta. The reception continued their vintage, yet modern affair – from cupcakes to an actual turntable to the bits of sparkle throughout the decor. But all in all, you can not forget about the gorgeous bride. Her slimming silhouette dress that accented her very 1940′s inspired hairdo to those unforgettable ruby red lips. One thing at WedCandy that we always seem to go back to is the shoes. The one surprise that Angela had was her purple shoes. Those amazing purple shoes that complimented her flowers oh’ so beautifully. Now Troy, stunning troy…. in his suspenders and his groomsmen by his side. Classic yet so very Modern. This man has taste.
Angela and Troy – I hope you live happily ever after and inspire Brides everywhere with the unforgettable taste from your wedding day.

Red – the color of 1940′s glam. Red – the color of true vintage appeal. From flowers, to bridesmaids dresses (and engagement dresses!) to everything in between. Red has always been a traditional wedding color scheme seen among brides. But lately, Brides have been finding different ways to incorporate this true, rich color into their overall Wedding. The red tones add that bit of glam to the traditional sense. Talking in circles? I know… but just think about incorporating red from your engagement pictures, to your make up to bold red roses. Such a statement. Such class.
Enjoy a sneak peek of Angela and Troy’s Engagement and Wedding. The color red speaks volumes in her pictures. From the ruby red dress to the ruby red lips……Classic. Glam. Vintage. Beautiful.

Selecting your perfect dress. Selecting the dress that you have dreamed of since you were a little girl. Making that one dream come true with that ONE dress. All in all it can seem like such an exhilarating experience, but at the same time a girl can get overwhelmed with all of the options that are out there. Brides are currently trending towards layers and different fabrics. Dresses with lots of texture and intricate details. Brides are choosing different silhouettes that are not seemingly typical and not quite traditional. Dresses with jewels attached for that added bit of sparkle. Selecting the dress should be an experience that you remember for the rest of your wedded days. So go in with an open mind. Know that THIS is the time to select a dress outside your comfort zone. No matter what, you will look stunning.
