Paper Products – Design In August {Branding & Stationery Studio}

June 30, 2011

Design In August walks us through their fun & creative wedding stationary designs and gives us a little background on how each design came to be. You’ll definitely be able to draw some inspiration from these super cute ideas.  Make sure to visit Design In August for your own wedding stationary needs!

I happen to love how paper sets the tone for an event.  In our 2011 world nothing sets my heart aflutter like a fancy piece of paper or envelope mixed in my stack of mail.  Starting with the Save the Date, your event stationery can introduce your style, your quirks, your love story.., and then take that same look to every printed paper piece, right on through to your Thank You Notes.  This postcard introduced the casual elegance Jenny & Mike were going for.

Hello, Nashville!  When my studio line rang and I heard, “Can you design a rehearsal dinner invitation in the style of a Hatch Show print?” I didn’t miss a beat and said, “Absolutely!”  My love for typography (the design and arrangement of letter-forms) combined with the opportunity to communicate a message with that typography really gets my creativity flowing!  I think it’s that combination that pulled me into the world of graphic design to begin with.

Every project coming out of Design in August is custom.  I work closely with each client to develop paper goods to meet their style, taste, and needs.  This invitation suite was designed for a weekend-long event culminating in a garden party wedding on the lawn of a plantation house.  The bride needed multiple cards and a little pocket folder to nest it all together.  Shades of green and scripty design elements set the tone for this springtime event.

Similarly, this invitation suite also featured multiple cards, but I had the extra joy of commissioning a calligrapher to pen the invitation and a few accent words for that handwritten flair.  Josie Wolfe of Calligraphy by Josie provided the penmanship for this suite, while I pulled it all together with the typo-setting and icons to finish off this classic, vintage look.  Be sure to check out the event ephemera (menus, escort cards, programs… all the little papers that really finish off a party) here.

And speaking of ephemera… Another fun little paper touch for parties are these cocktail stir sticks.  I had such fun creating these for a very special cocktail event for brides-to-be and their grooms.  Stir sticks printed with “Soon to be Mrs.” and “Stir. Sip. Repeat.” brought smiles to party goers’ faces, while adding yet another design element in the event’s contemporary color palette of yellow and grays.

Design in August has more than paper coming out of its doors these days.  You can add finishing touches to your invitations, stationery or ephemera with custom designed embossers and rubber stamps, all coordinated to compliment your custom printing.  Return address stamps are a popular, and economic, choice for DIY clientele.  As a full service design studio with access to professional printing and vendors, I offer clients the peace of mind that all of their designs and printed goods are taken care of from start to finish.

And last, but not least, is the final accessory to any paper suite: a lined envelope.  What a lovely way to dress up your mailing!  These koi fish patterned envelope liners were the perfect accent to this custom, Asian inspired 50th birthday party invitation.  And these certainly set the tone for guests… They arrived to the party and happened to be greeted by live koi swimming in the host’s pond!

All invites by Design In August.

Paper Products – Florentine Wedding Invitations

June 9, 2011

We love seeing new and beautiful ideas for wedding invitations, and no one is better about finding new & unique paper than Southall Eden Paperie! Earlier this year, Shannon with Southall Eden, visited a paper maker while in Florence, Italy. “The art of marbled paper making dates back to the 18th century in Italy and is now done almost exclusively in Florence, and the peacock-esque patterned marbling has become almost synonymous with the city”, says Shannon. Below are the results of her trip, a beautiful line of Florentine wedding invitations. The best part about them?  The paper makers can custom dye the paper to match the color scheme of your wedding!

Wedding Invitations – Paper Moss

April 4, 2011

We love featuring wedding invitations & paper products. They add such a great personal touch to your day and really set the tone to your guests for the style & mood of your wedding. The possibilities are absolutely endless. It is so important to work with someone who can help translate your taste & style into your invitations. That’s where a great company like Paper Moss enters the picture. Below are some examples of their incredible work, including stories from founder, Emily, about what led each couple to each design. Enjoy!

Melissa & Jason’s invite suite included a belly band which is a great addition to any invite and allows for additional info and an extra pop of color. Belly bands also serve as sort of a ‘modern day’ inner envelope, holding all the cards together inside the main envelope. The couple chose to include a scripture that was meaningful to both of them. The faux postcard stamps on their rsvp included an outline of Louisiana – the home state of the couple.

Gail & Ryan’s invite had very organic a garden feel with the flower motifs. To save cost & paper, they opted out of a printed belly band and went with a burlap ribbon & twine, adding the perfect amount of texture!

Cailin & Ezra’s invite is a great example of how calligraphy doesn’t have to be super traditional. With gorgeous lettering by Larry Orlando Calligraphy, their suite was a classic but had a modern flair. (And hand lettering is just simply gorgeous when pressed into the lush cotton paper!)

Louisa & Frank’s invite, oh how I loved this suite.  This couple were nature lovers. He was an avid fisherman & her a lover of birds – which were both represented in their monogram. Married on a private Oak Farm estate, this became the central part of their monogram.

The best part about Jennifer & Scott’s suite are the little icons for each activity. What a great way to personalize an invite and pay a tribute to the venue location. We wanted their invite to be more of an experience so we tied the twine remnant of a present with a tag for each guest.

We hope this has given you a little inspiration for your upcoming wedding!  For more information on these beautiful wedding invitations, make sure to stop by Paper Moss.
